The campaign aims to give visibility to the problems faced by women in public transport.

On January 15, a Memorandum of Understanding between the World Bank (WB) and the International Public Transport Association (UITP), represented by its Secretary General Mohamed Mezghani, took place in Washington D.C. aimed at formalizing the collaboration between both organizations on the safety of women in public transport and to move towards common achievements.

The UITP and the World Bank will work together on this issue through awareness-raising actions, promotion of good practices, project development, technical assistance and training.

On the same day as the signing of the Memorandum, Mezghani participated in the round table of a plenary session entitled Transforming Transportation. This panel was the first of its kind at this international event to address gender in public transport.

As part of this panel discussion, entitled "Transport is not gender neutral", UITP and the World Bank released a video to highlight the problems women face on a daily basis in public transport and the need for them to feel safe.

The campaign was officially launched on February 9 in Brussels under the hashtag #PT4ME. UITP is determined to advance safety and opportunities for women in public transport, with the conviction that public transport must be safe for all users.

The #PT4ME campaign, with a global dimension, has been made to coincide with the celebration of International Women's Day on March 8, with the purpose of the UITP to make public transport safer and more accessible for all. On that day, the above video will be shown on screens of public transport stations around the world.

UITP will gather in Karlsruhe, Germany, for the IT-TRANS Conference, where it will join forces with relevant women who will speak at its roundtables. Throughout the day, messages from women from various professional fields will be shared through social networks.

"Together we can be the voice that helps women around the world access safer public transport environments," Mezghani said on the day of the presentation.
