Begoña Guirao Abad

Begoña Guirao holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the UPM (1996) and a PhD in Civil Engineering from the same university (2000). With more than 25 years of teaching and research experience in the field of Transport Engineering and Infrastructure, she is currently a University Professor in the Department of Transport, Territory and Urban Planning Engineering at the UPM. Professor Guirao has directed and participated in dozens of competitive international, national, and regional R&D projects and is the author of more than 50 scientific articles and conference papers. Her professional and research activity is related to transport engineering, travel behavior models, and road safety. Internationally, she is noted for her work as the Spanish representative (2003-2014) on the European Union’s COST Transport Committee, evaluating and monitoring dozens of European projects in the field of transport. In the field of teaching, she was Deputy Director of Academic Planning at the ETSI Caminos (School of Civil Engineering) of the University of Castilla-La Mancha and has promoted numerous Service Learning (ApS) projects in the field of road safety.
