María Castro Malpica holds a PhD and a Master in Civil Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. She is a Full Professor at the Department of Transportation Engineering, Territory and Urban Planning of this University. She runs the Master of Civil Engineering Systems. She has held several civil engineering positions in the private sector for eight years before joining academia. Her research focuses on Transportation Engineering and Infrastructure. She has conducted several studies about pavements and road geometric design. In her pavement research line, she has contributed to bridge pavement design and fatigue of bituminous mixtures. In her line of research on road geometric design, her work on vehicle speed models, road design consistency, and sight distance stands out. Recently, she has been working on traffic safety studies using a driving simulator. She is the author or co-author of numerous papers published at international conferences and journals.
